Lifelong Learning Builds Bridges

Learning Every Day in Many Ways
Picture

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

Hello Everyone!

I would like to welcome you to my Building Lifelong Learners page! My name is Dana Serini and I am the Literacy Coach/Resource Specialist, Yearbook/Leadership Educator, and Senior Class Advisor at the amazing Alpine Academy.  I am a 4th generation Nevadan and was raised in the small farming community of Smith Valley.  I went to a high school that was actually smaller than Alpine so I understand the benefits of going to a small school and I am honored to be part of a culture that is hard to find in today's society but is abundant here.

I obtained my Bachelors of  Science degree with a dual major  in Elementary Education and Special Education in 2003 and my Masters of Education in Literacy Studies with a focus on cultural studies and high school literacy in 2008.  I received both of my degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Before my current position, I held a teaching position at Esther Bennett Elementary School in Sun Valley for 8 years as an upper grade resource teacher.  Previous to this assignment, I taught in Douglas County School District at the middle school level for two years as a resource case manager for 7th graders.  I have held positions on various Response To Intervention teams as well as built and facilitated a community mentor program including members of the Reno Sheriff’s Department as well as University of Nevada, Reno’s students.

Now for the nitty gritty.  You will find newsletters that outline important projects, school and community activities, and of course opportunities for extra support and volunteering in our community on this page.

Note to Parents and Guardians: My job as a resource specialist and educator is to help all students meet their potential by helping them find their strengths and build ways to accommodate their weaknesses.  It is key to have your support on this front.  It has been proven not only in my own classrooms but across the educational spectrum that students who have accountability from the home do better in school and in life.  Please take the time to read over your students' work as well as follow my newsletters.  High expectations are risen to on a daily basis if there is support.

You can reach me by calling 775-356-1166 or email me at: dserini@alpineacademy.net  (I check my email daily before school at 7 am and after school at 3:30 pm)

I also use Remind 101 (a free app) to send text messages.  If you would like to be added to my list, please email me with your cell phone number.  (Your number is never shared and cannot be seen by others.)

By following this webpage, you will be able to check the homework , find my weekly bulletin,  and find any school wide announcements.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Serini
